- If you knew how the world would turn out, would you have still fought hard for your beliefs?

I know as a woman, wife, and mother there are more changes that need to be made with the way society treats women. I also feel that society, the media, and fashion industries have gone crazy with this idea and are over sexualizing women. When newscasters portray how a man’s life is over because of what he did to a girl and not once talk about the victim, I think off of these women and their hard work was for NOTHING. When women are still sexually harassed at work and are afraid to report it, I think their fight was for NOTHING. When I read that a woman was stalked and murdered and there was nothing they could do, I cry for the women who fought this and yet it keeps happening. Those women are heroes, revolutionaries, fighters…but did they make a difference? Or perhaps they started the fight so we can finish it.

Wonderful list and loved that you would choose to talk to these women who pioneered for women’s rights. If I could have dinner with them, I think I would thank them first and foremost for all they did do. Yet, I know we have so much more that still needs to be accomplished, they still did a ton to help us and we wouldn’t be half as far as we are today without their efforts. Thank you Karen for sharing and for always linking up with us!!! 🙂 🙂

Eleanor Roosevelt was awesome! She was Feisty! I liked her a lot. Plus, she wasn’t the typical first lady. She wasn’t at all physically attractive, but was beautiful on the inside. I loved her.
These women fought for women’s rights, civil rights, etc – but every woman – every one in the world has to fight for herself. She has to advocate for her own dignity and her own rights – as a human being. you know? Nobody can do it for you. Yes, there were people that started the conversation – but we must finish it.
Everyone has to be their own best advocate. If you are sexually harassed at work, you must risk loosing your job so that it doesn’t happen to anyone else. You know? You must sacrifice yourself for the greater good of all. If one doesn’t do that, then it will never stop. We can’t depend upon others to do the work for us.
It’s scary and it’s hard. It’s hard to think of loosing your job as breadwinner, or whatever the case may be. But it must be done. It’s the only way.
It’s the put your money where your mouth is scenario. It might not be fair, but that’s life. Life is not always fair.

You are so RIGHT! It takes courage to do the right thing when everyone is against you…even if it’s hard, you must fight and stand up for yourself.
I think they would agree with you too. They would say keep fighting, even if you don’t the results you want, you are making it easier for the next woman.
Love love love this! As a history teacher, I also wonder how these women would see the world today ~ I think they would be horrified, in particular, at how many women don’t even vote! Have you seen “Iron Jawed Angels”? It’s about Alice Paul (played by Hillary Swank) and the events leading to the passage of the 20th Amendment. After seeing it, I vowed that even if it’s just to vote for dog catcher, I will never forgo my right to vote! We owe so much to these women ~ and I totally agree with your comment that they started the fight that we need to finish. Great post!!!
I KNOW, I agree with you, I vote because of all the women who sacrificed so I can vote. I will continue to fight and part of that fight is to make sure my son will NOT be one of these men deluded by society and treat women as his equal.
LOVE that movie., I tell my female high school students to watch it, I doubt they do though 😦
I used to teach a Women’s History elective (we had to cancel it, however, because not enough kids signed up…. 😦 ). Anyway, when I did teach it I always showed that film … so so so powerful! Glad you recommend it to your students…. Maybe tell them McDreamy is in it???
You raise such fascinating questions, some which never occurred to me. So true about society preaching to not get raped, instead of to not rape. So well-said, I love your selection and boy would I have LOVED to read the notes from this dinner. You could even speculate what some of their answers would be and do a follow-up post! This is a great list of women! Sad that more time is not devoted to them in the history books and classrooms. What a fascinating conversation that would be.

What a great list of options and questions. It’s too bad there isn’t enough emphasis on women’s rights in the world. As horrible as a thought as it is, I think there will always be a feeling of oppression for women (and minorities, so being both sucks) because there will always be those men who think they are better.
yes, you are right and it angers me when women in the media allow it to happen or contribute to it.
I love Eleanor Roosevelt. She’s was an incredibly gifted, smart, and progressive lady and I love reading things about her and tweeting her quotes. She was a force to be reckoned with!
yes…I read a book (rather listened to the CD) about her life as a Presidents wife…it was very interesting.
Wow. What an excellent list of choices and I love the questions you’d pose. I’d really like to hear the answer to whether women have taken advantage of equality and agree that we still have a ways to go.
I know, if only we could know whta they really think.
what I get the most out of these hops (and making Comments) is to read something (with a common starting point/idea) that would not have occurred to me. To read and to (try) to understand something of what the writer is saying is at time very challenging but always satisfying.
